Shashinboku (捨身木, Sati-tree) is a tree in the Yellow Sea that grows upon Mount Hou and bear the kirin ranka. It is the only tree of its kind in the world. From the roots of the tree, the nyokai of a kirin is born from the root exactly opposite the branch in which a kirin ranka appears. Shortly after the kirin ranka appears, the nyokai will hatch and attentively watch over the kirin's ranka until it hatches. It is known as the Sati tree in the Tokyopop translation.
Each ranka that holds a Kirin is given the title of the Kingdom of the unborn Kirin represents and ends with -ka (果).
