Kaikyaku (海客, sea guests) are people from the sea who were caught in a shoku from Japan and swept into the world of the Twelve Kingdoms. They are often unable to return back to Japan.

Description[edit | edit source]

Kaikyaku, like sankyaku, are unable to speak or understand the language spoken in the Twelve Kingdoms and may by subject to persecution, particularly as a result of superstitious belief that they caused shoku.

However, Rakushun claims to Youko Nakajima that sankyaku and kaikyaku bring rare things to the world of the Twelve Kingdoms, including paper, ceramics, print technology, medicine, and Buddhism.
